Lately I am able to sleep for a long time, so that feels quite great. Not doing anything is something else though. Same goes for my host brother Shinji, who only has club activities in the afternoon. Although in his spare time, he is mostly busy with his girlfriend. Using Skype because it is cheaper. After reading some manga online, I took a shower and left for Alplaza.

From now on it is August. The day I have to leave is coming closer. Tonight there is the Perfect Liberty Fireworks Festival, one of the largest ones in Japan. We want to see it as close as possible, so we had to wake up early. Being as close as possible does not only mean waking up early though. It also means you have to be part of a tour as well. Unbelievably, this Yomiuri tour costs 10980 yen per person. As a part of the family, I felt obliged to pay my own part. I hope my own mom understands this.

Nine days remaining. I think I slept a bit too long but that is okay. Today I thought of… doing pretty much nothing. Nothing planned until the evening. I woke up at nine but I kept reading my manga for two hours. I think it is really good for practising reading kanji. If that is too hard, read Yotsubato! That has rarely kanji in it at the beginning. For the rest, nearly every manga has furigana.

I actually planned to wake up at seven, but my lazy habits are appearing again. So I got up 45 minutes later but I still have enough time to prepare for the new club I joined. It is soft tennis….tennis but with a softer ball – think of a stress – I did not know what to prepare though, so for the meanwhile I got myself some PE clothes and shoes, some bread and bananas…And English tea. Though this tea did not originate from Japan, but from the Philippines. They said I could eat everything that was in the house but it feels kind of rude to take something without asking for permission. Although I do not really do that in my own house, so I understood their feelings.

11 o’clock. Yep, that is how I know myself. It is not past twelve but I cannot be too late for appointments, can I? Did not do too much today in my opinion, but I got my mind set after a good conversation with my host mother. It is very important for later at home as well. Anyway, took a fast shower in the morning and left for the usual meeting spot after a toast, a banana and a donut. Also, Calpis. That last one is comparable to what the Dutch call “aanmaaklimonade”.

Ack, this does not feel comfortable. Woke up with lights on, the AC still on and still wearing my uniform. Guess I was really tired yesterday, although I did not do that much. Is it really the lack of caffeine I am used to? Talking about caffeine, they should really introduce Red Bull to the Japanese, as I heard that they already hardly sleep. By the way, I forgot to say this but toilets in Japan are fantastic. They all have this bidet function, and some toilets are heated or automatically flush when you stand up.

I am behind with writing this day in my diary so I might miss some vital information. I woke up early because I was not allowed to miss the train. I used the shower in the morning but I did not know everyone does that, so I had to hurry up before everyone would be late because of me. As I had to hurry up a little, I toast some bread with salad, ate some fruit, and left for Korien.
