Haisai! After like, one and half years, I finally decided to go through all these episodes in one session. Luckily, they’re only 3 minutes each, so that saves a lot of time. However, since they have a lot of Okinawan Japanese that I don’t understand, I’ve had my fair amount of research before I was able to finish all of this. The quality of the translations may vary because somewhere in the middle I was contemplating whether I should continue with this project or not. I decided to give it one more roll but I’m more motivated to watch than to actually translate it considering the expected amount of people that will actually get to see these scripts. That all said and done, let’s get to the episodes!
This is a random rant I posted on someone’s facebook some time ago. I figured it has quite the content so I decided to post it on my blog as well. It’s about someone who was complaining about the quality of English dubs on Japanese series, and that there are many flaws. Of course this dug up an immense flamewar. Food for thought, I guess. Any side comments by me are written in italics.
And yet another Acchi Kocchi release by Hatsuyuki! This episode is all about snowball fights and Io making everyone fall in love with him…once again. It’s always good for a laugh in my opinion. It’s definitely not a series you want to watch episode after episode from what I think. That’d be as much as a pain as to finish Nichijou within 2 days. I’d forget most of the jokes in no time if I don’t let them sink in. Although I have to admit that we’re working on this series…really slowly…You might rather forget the jokes because of the large timespan in between.
At last, we get some Acchi Kocchi releases! We’re still going through hell because we lack the typesetters though. Not all signs have been put into the episode because of the lack of time and the amount of work needed. There’s also a problem with translating (yeah, that includes me). I’ve done the first episode on my own, which took quite an amount of time. I requested a nice feedback from ElyasRay (whose scripts I’ve been checking for High School DxD in return), but we came to the conclusion that I still need a lot of experience before I start fansubbing as the lead translator.
As you might or might not have heard, I’m in charge as Hatsuyuki’s main translator for Acchi Kocchi next season. Even though I’ll get closed captions (Japanese subtitles for the deaf), it’s probably still going to be quite the challenge. Not just for my Japanese, but for my English skills as well. In any case I’m trying to do my best. I might forward Hatsuyuki’s torrent links here, if you are interested in watching this series.
I am also in charge as the Translation Checker for Kore ha Zombie desu ka? Jigoku-hen (typically known as “OF THE DEAD”), to keep the job at least a bit interesting, right? Luckily, these series all start just one week after my mid-term exams, so you won’t notice too many delays (hopefully until my final exams).
In any case, kind staff members found radio recordings that contained the opening and the ending of Acchi Kocchi, so I could work on it beforehand. Note that the ending did not have a Japanese kanji transcription and wasn’t recorded that well, so there were some parts that I could not fully comprehend. Maybe I’ll update it when official lyrics release.
